Photoshop is a popular photo-editing program for the Mac OS. Photoshop is the preferred image editing software for many graphic professionals because of its powerful capabilities. Adobe has refined Photoshop's user interface to the point that even a novice can use the program. Open iPhoto and choose iPhoto Preferences. Select the General tab. Click the Edit Photo menu and select In Application. Select the Elements Editor application file from the list of applications and click Open. Inside, look for “Open with:” and click on the arrow to expand the option. The default software to open the file based on the file extension (.jpg.png.gif, etc.) will be visible in the drop-down window. To switch the default to Photoshop, click on the drop-down menu, locate it, and select your version of Photoshop.
The box for Photoshop Elements for Mac OS has a note printed on it that says 'Works with Apple iPhoto.' This statement means that if you change the iPhoto preferences, you can open your images directly in Photoshop Elements when you double-click an image in iPhoto. You can also import an iPhoto catalog in the Elements Organizer.
